The title may be misleading but not everyone is familiar with how Auto liability insurance works but that does not make you a dummy. However, I'm here to give you the basic information on what Auto Liability is and how it works. In the lovely state of North Carolina if you own a vehicle and drive it one the NC roads then you must at the minimum carry liability insurance on your vehicle or motorcycle in most cases. While the prices may vary on how much you will pay for Liability insurance the coverages work the same. I'll give you a quick scenario: let's say you are driving your 2010 Toyota Camry to the grocery store to buy some items to make dinner when you get a text from your son to pick up some milk, knowing there is already milk in your house you quickly try and text back while driving but you didn't realize there was a stop sign ahead and the car in front of you has stopped completely but you still kept going. Before you know it you have accidentally hit another vehicle from behind. Oh No you scream! Now is the time most individuals are wondering how they are going to pay for the damages they caused to the other vehicle by not paying attention. Well we know in this case that the driver texting was Liable for the damages because he clearly caused the accident and not only damaged the other persons vehicle but also injured the other driver from the impact of the accident. Here is where your Auto Liability will kick in to pay for the damages you caused to the OTHER vehicle but it will provide some coverage for the OTHER drivers injuries in the event they need medical treatment. In conclusion, Auto Liability covers Bodily Injury and Property damages of the injured party. So, next time you are in your Insurance agents office you can wow them with the knowledge you now have about Auto Liability Insurance.
